How to prepare sugar-free polvorones for diabetics

With the arrival of Christmas, the table is filled with rich desserts to round off dinners and family gatherings. Therefore, if you have a diabetic at your meeting, you can succeed with this Christmas recipe for traditional almond shortbread, yes, without sugar for diabetics!

Diabetes is a pathology that causes a high concentration of sugar in the blood. It is produced by a failure in the production or action of insulin, responsible for transporting glucose into the cells. In general, diabetics must follow a careful diet, carefully observing the ingredients of food manufacturing, in addition to controlling blood sugar levels.

The ingredients you need to make about 20 units of polvorones are:

  • 450 grams of wheat flour
  • 200 milliliters of olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon of Stevia
  • 125 grams of ground almonds
  • 4 oranges
  • 1 little cinnamon
  • 10 grams of ginger powder or fresh

Step by step preparation:

  • To start, preheat the oven to 200ºC and while you put the olive oil, cinnamon and stevia in a bowl (this way we will be able to sweeten our polvorones but at the same time that people with diabetes can consume them). Then add the ginger and the orange juice (which we have previously squeezed). Mix all the ingredients well until they are integrated.
  • Sift the flour and add it to the mixture little by little. Then do the same with the ground almonds. Pour it into a mold (the one you like the most) and put them in the oven for 25 minutes. Although our recommendation is that you keep an eye on the polvorones after 20 minutes.
  • Afterwards, you will only have to take them out and unmold them. To finish you can add a whole almond or a little orange zest on top. And they would be ready to eat and enjoy with the family!

0% sugar shortbread recipe

The variety for cooking mantecados or polvorones for diabetics in the face of Christmas is great. Therefore, here we leave you another recipe with coconut flour and vanilla that you will love:

What ingredients do you need?

  • A cup of coconut flour
  • Half a cup of wheat flour
  • One third cup of vegetable oil
  • A tablespoon of stevia
  • an egg yolk
  • A tablespoon of ground cinnamon
  • A tablespoon of butter or margarine
  • a spoonful of vanilla

How to make the shortbread step by step:

  1. In a bowl, mix the tablespoon of cinnamon, vanilla, stevia, egg yolk and olive oil. We mix all those ingredients well until they are completely integrated.
  2. In another bowl, we previously mix the two flours, the coconut and the wheat, and later we add them little by little to our first mixture of the rest of the ingredients.
  3.  It is important that we do it slowly so that everything is integrated well.
  4. When we have everything mixed we will see that the dough is not very compact to make the units well, so we must add a tablespoon of butter or margarine and mix again.
  5. This way we will achieve a more compact texture that will allow us to make individual shortbreads.
  6. We will have to give them a round shape with our hands and flatten them slightly and then put them on the baking tray (with a little oil at the base of the tray, so that they do not stick).
  7. We can add a little chopped almond on top, to taste. Then, we put in the oven at 160 ºC for 15-20 minutes. Ready!
