The cupcake fashion

Cupcake fashion has spread internationally after sweeping countries that pioneered this type of pastry such as England or the United States. They are small cakes of various flavors and colors and are the perfect example of what has been called a creative pastry.

Cupcakes are a kind of muffin, covered in a cream called buttercream –made with butter and icing sugar- which, along with cakes and macarons, are the most successful sweets in pastry shops. Another trend regarding this sweet is the progressive introduction of women -its acceptance among the female public is greater- in its home preparation, since it offers many and diverse possibilities of decoration.

Criticism of cupcakes

  • There are people who perceive these sweets as simple decorated cupcakes, and claim the traditional sweet against a supposedly invasive and excessively caloric fashion from Anglo-Saxon countries. Its defenders, on the other hand, argue that it is more of a kind of cake portions in individual format, so that it is not necessary to buy a complete cake to enjoy a little whim.
  • Another element that is usually the basis of strong divergences is the requirement for its realization of large quantities of industrial products such as food dyes. One of the best known, red velvet, has an intense red color that, initially, was achieved with beets but, today, there is a tendency to use products that color the dough or the cream.
  • Despite these criticisms, in recent years a large number of blogs, shops, courses and workshops have proliferated in which the female public can give free rein to their creativity, and enter the world of confectionery.

The success of creative confectionery

  • One of the great expansion strategies of this sweet resides in weddings and other types of ceremonies such as communions or baptisms. There are many women, either to save expenses at the banquet or because they want to offer their guests a personalized dessert, who decide to make or order cakes, cupcakes and cookies. The latter are usually given to guests as a souvenir of the celebration.
  • For this reason, cupcake designs become progressively more complex, decorated with flowers and drawings to the taste of whoever makes them. They are also a nice birthday gift or detail to surprise your boy at a romantic dinner or a special night.
  • What is undeniable is that creative confectionery has entered with a bang and although it is still early to say if cupcakes will become a tradition, it is a trend that has come to succeed and stay.
